Community Governance Review Consultation 2025/26

published on 17th Oct 2025 (updated on 7th Nov 2025)

The stage 1 consultation for the 2025/26 Community Governance Review (CGR) is current live

North Yorkshire Council are consulting residents about the future governance of Escrick Parish Council. Due to a lack of residents willing to become parish councillors, the parish is currently holding several vacant seats. North Yorkshire Council is undertaking a community governance review to ensure that parish level governance arrangements are operating as effectively as possible.A request has been received from Escrick Parish Council to reduce the number of councillor seats from 11 to nine as the parish is currently several vacancies. As of June 2025, 11 councillor seats represent 764 electors. This will enable the council to work more effectively. The Parish Council has struggled to fill all the seats for many years and despite advertising for new volunteers only a small number of residents have come forward. At the last election only 5 members were elected. This meant that the Parish Council did not meet the quorate requirements to maintain it's general power of competence allowing expenditure in areas that affect parishioners. One such example is being unable to provide lighting at the bus stop on the A19/Sang Thai (as it is classed as outside the parish) despite the majority of users at that stop residing in Escrick. You are invited to have your say as part of this consultation. The closing date for the survey is 22 December 2025.

Garden waste licences now available

published on 5th Feb 2025

Residents can now pay for their licence for the 2025 garden waste season.

A licence costs £49 for collections between March and early December. This provides a cost-effective way for residents to dispose of garden waste.

The licence covers one 240-litre wheelie bin to be emptied fortnightly. Anyone who wishes to have more than one bin emptied will need to pay for a licence for each additional bin. Residents can also pay for a licence at any time throughout the season but are encouraged to do so before the start of the service in March as the cost will remain the same.

Once paid, a licence pack should arrive within 14 days.

For more information about the garden waste service, including terms and conditions, and collection dates, please visit www.northyorks.gov.uk/garden-waste.

North Yorkshire Local Plan - Call for Sites

published on 31st Jan 2025

Update from NYC on the Local Plan:
We wanted to point you in the direction of the dedicated Call for Sites webpage, which gives further information to the process and introduces a ‘Frequently Asked Questions’ section. This should provide you with answers to specific questions that are likely to be raised. We propose to update the FAQs if we receive further queries over the coming weeks.

The webpage also contains a link to the mapping website whereby the site submissions can be viewed. This will now allow us to update the map when additional sites are added, or if any are withdrawn without having to send updated links to you on each occasion. This should reduce the amount of correspondence that the Local Plan team will need to send to you.
